It is with great pleasure that we introduce the Erasmus MC Neurosurgical Grands Rounds, where we invite speakers from the department of Neurosurgery and adjacent specialties to share their expertise. For the first edition we have a very special speaker, who would also be of interest to the department of Neuroscience: prof. Nick Ramsey from the UMC Utrecht, expert in clinical applications of Brain Computer Interfaces. His research focuses on recovery of neurological function including hand movement, speech, language and vision in patients with a variety of conditions including ALS and spinal cord injury. An example of their work is a speech computer using a BCI in a patient with ALS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0e7aaRQmKQ The Connected Brain - YouTube Neuroscientist Prof Nick Ramsey (UMC Utrecht) developed a device that translates a paralyzed patient’s thoughts into computer commands. The lecture is freely accessible for students, researchers and clinicians in and outside of the Erasmus MC interested in the subject. To be able to monitor the number of participants, we work with an attendance form, which also allows you to ask a question to the speaker beforehand.
