Congrats to Eric Lowet for the ERC grant and his portrait in the Science Gallery in De Passage

The European Research Council (ERC) promotes excellent scientific research within Europe by rewarding researchers with outstanding ideas with research grants. Yesterday, the portraits of Dr. Eric Lowet together with Prof. Dr. Caroline Klaver and Prof. Dr. Ewout Hoorn were unveiled in the passage.

Dr. Eric Lowet, assistant professor at the Department of Neuroscience, has only one mission: how do brain cells (neurons) communicate and how do they organize themselves during behavior? For his ERC Starting Grant Opto-DBS, he will visualize for the first time how deep brain stimulation affects different types of brain cells and how this can help control and alleviate epileptic seizures. Eric hopes to show how electrical stimulation changes the communication of brain cells in the epileptic brain. Ultimately, this will lead to a more effective treatment for patients with epilepsy.
